The Network Issue Forum: Moline Public Library

The Network, (the organization formerly known as YPN) is having a discussion forum tonight about the future of the Moline Public Library building. Sounds interesting, and admission is free. From their website:
Keeping with our brand promise, The Network
has established an Advocacy Committee to develop programming that will
capture the “voice” of area young professionals and make it heard
around issues, policies, and initiatives that impact the region’s
ability to attract, retain, and engage young talent. Beginning on
November 12th, The Network's Advocacy Committee will host a series of
open forums called Issue Forums to discuss those issues that matter to
YPs with the goal to educate YPs and generate the YP voice to be shared
with regional leaders.

Our first Issue Forum will focus on the best use of the Carnegie
Building in downtown Moline, currently home to the Moline Public
Library. Young Professionals are invited to join their peers to learn
more about this building, the City of Moline's plan, and engage in a
discussion around possible uses for the historic building.

Date: Wednesday November 12, 2008
Time: 7:00pm to 9:00pm
Location: Carnegie Building (Downtown Moline Library)
504 17th Street, Moline

To our users: businesses who have paid for directory listings in our Wedding and Health marketplaces are more than welcome to add their voices to the mix. We are working on a way of separating different blog entry types, but in the meantime all blog posts run together.

Businesses who do not participate in our directory program will have their posts removed.

Yes, we know they've been down most of the morning. Post-election traffic on our hosting provider has led to connection timeouts on our commenting engine.

The power should come back on at 2pm. Our apologies for the time off.

Get School Closing Alerts on your phone

Non-election news from the web dude. We launched a new text messaging service today for QC Area School alerts:

Quad Cities School Closing Alerts

You can select multiple schools or in some cases district-wide alerts. Pretty darn cool, if you ask me - but I'm biased.

And in case you missed it, we have text alerts for Quad Cities high school football scores.

What will we think of next?

Actually, what types of information would you like to see tracked like this? Let me know in the comments.

The wife and I hit the polls at 7AM this morning and found a line out the door at the Duck Creek Lodge polling place. One of our neighbors is a poll worker, and volunteered this tidbit:

Out of 2000 registered voters, over 700 had voted early or absentee. And the line was out the door at 7AM (only slightly shorter when we left).
