July 23, 2010 By my estimate, there were over 300 people at Timmy's service. It was so touching to see so many from Oscar Mayer there. Many had to park up to 2 blocks away in order to pay their respects. Amanda took it all in stride, smiling gently and responding "I know" when people commented about the crowd.

July 21, 2010 I saw the kids out working on this, and wondered what they were doing. Good job, saving money on a project that was going to be done anyway. 11 years ago I had the opportunity to assist in creating a database of the city streets, including the dates they were built and the dates of resurfacing. Didn't have to pound the pavement for that one, but spent a few weeks in the plat room, poring over maps of the city. Cool stuff.

July 13, 2010 Did a little look up on Iowa Courts Online. Had to wade through a lot of stuff to find it, but it appears she has a restraining order against her husband ... rather than the opposite.

July 09, 2010 There's a ton of information on the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children's site (ncmec.org). This article doesn't list specific statistics, but it gives a lot of good supporting information for the statistics rdclfmnst quoted: http://www.ncmec.org/en_US/publications/NC70.pdf
It also provides different information about the number of female predators - nothing clear-cut, but the author believes there may be more of them than originally thought.

July 07, 2010 I agree with Reuther - it may be too late for us to object. But I'm going to anyway. The downtown streets are not wide enough to accomodate two-way traffic, bicycle lanes, AND turn lanes. The fireworks last weekend was only one event - imagine the wonderful venues we have downtown, and all the events that currently take place down there. Now imagine the gridlock after every one of those events. As happened in the 70's, people will stop going downtown to avoid the traffic mess, and we're back to wondering if traffic would move more smoothly with one-ways. Seems cyclical to me...
