OLD SOLDIERS NEVER DIE THEY JUST FADE AWAY

Luis Ramirez, the last World War II veteran from Hero Street has left us with a memory that most people will not even notice. I will repeat it for history’s sake…….. “Immediately after Pearl Harbor, Luis joined the U.S. Army, and his unit ended up fighting at Guadalcanal, beginning in December 1942, a brutal but decisive victory for Allied forces in the Pacific. Some 38,000 men — Japanese and Americans — died in the three-month conflict.”
If we bring out our calculators and divide the causalities by the days (90) It amounts to 140 people per day. However that also doesn’t include all those injured fighting on foreign soil. I ask does this 38,000 deaths bring another meaning to the 4,000 lost in Iraq since we were fighting Terror from another Nation and another ideology who thought the possessed absolute power over all nations of the world? And the irony of the account of those who gave all, is the fact that the two world leaders from thses two great nations vivited Graceland a while back, to visit "The King."
