Happy Friday! Bye-bye Blago, hello Studio D, and the Coats for Kids kick-off wrap up this week in Quadsville

Happy Friday, Quadsville! And it is a very happy day for the state of Illinois. Today the legislature voted 114-1 to impeach Gov. Rod Blagojevich. You can read the story here. And today's Editorial Page offers this opinion on how quickly the legislature (for once) has acted.

This week's ribbon cutting: We have a new business to welcome to the Quadsville Marketplace. Please drop by Studio D Photography and check them out!

Coats for Kids: I received an e-mail this morning from The Network (young professionals of the Quad-Cities) letting me know that the Coats for Kids drive is underway. I thought some of you might be able to help out, too. You can donate new or gently used children's winter coats through the end of January at the Bettendorf, Geneseo and Illinois Quad-City chambers of commerce or at DavenportOne during business hours. The Coats for Kids committee then works with the schools to distribute coats to kids who don't have proper winter outerwear. I see kids walking to school on days like today in nothing warmer than a hooded sweatshirt. The need is definitely out there.

"American Idol" is almost here: Dave Heitz, Quad-City Times reporter and "Idol Chatter" blog writer will be hosting a live Web chat during the premiere of "American Idol" on Tuesday, 7-9 p.m. So log on while you're watching at home and tell Dave what you think of the new judge and the first round of auditions.

I believe that the state impeachment law is less stringent than the "high crimes and misdemeanors" standard for a Presidential impeachment.

I heard an interesting discussion the other day debating how many of Blagos's blunders were actually illegal, especially the profane requests for favors in return for the Senate seat.

Fortunately Illinois (I think) allows impeachment for things like incompetence, unethical behavior, and maybe even bad hair styles.
