One quality shone in all the photos submitted to this month’s Family Photo Contest: love.
![]() Hope Clark of Clinton, Iowa, won the Quadsvillagers’ Choice Award for her photo, “Daddy’s Hands." “I took this photo right after the birth of my nephew,” she wrote. “He is holding on to my brother’s hand.”
The Mayor’s Choice Award went to Jason Pawloski of Eldridge, Iowa, for “Through His Eyes.” “I had several great ideas for this month’s photo contest and was trying to decide which one to use,” Jason wrote. “Then I saw this picture my 4-year-old drew. Suddenly Daddy’s ideas weren’t all that great.”
That child’s perspective is also present in the next photo, an honorable mention submitted by Cheryl Draeger of Davenport. “My 5-year-old niece, Ariana Lamb, took this picture,” Cheryl wrote, “and her proud mother, Amber Lamb, is in the center with the big toothy smile!” You can tell who is the center of Ariana’s world.
Another honorable mention goes to Carla Secoy of Davenport for a photo capturing three generations. “I was always called ‘Momma Duck’ by our oldest daughter,” Carla wrote. “This picture is of our three daughters, granddaughter and grandson (so I guess that also makes me ‘Grandma Duck’).”
The laughter in Christie Fritsch’s honorable mention photo is contagious. “It was my dad’s birthday and all the birthday cards he received had dogs on them,” the Moline woman wrote. “My sister was laughing so hard.”
With Times Photo Editor Kevin Schmidt on vacation, newsroom artist Joe Kelley filled in as our final judge. The Joe’s Pick Award goes to Michelle Ash of East Moline for her photo, “A Walk.” “My husband was walking down our drive with our 1-year-old,” she wrote. “These prints are priceless to me.” Joe appreciated the non-traditional story-telling in this image. “We have all seen footprints in the snow,” he wrote, “but few of us think to use the image to illustrate the bond between father and child.”
