From the road
Posted by: Anne-Marie Hislop at 2:08PM CST on September 23, 2008

- While the weather folks talked about fog yesterday AM, there was not much hereabout. But as I headed toward DeKalb on I-88 I ran into pea soup. Visability was in yards, not fractions of a mile. It was hard to see, but some drivers were whipping by doing at least 70 MPH - AND they had no lights on - disappeared almost as soon as they passed me. I wonder what they are currently using for brains. Whatever it is, they need an up grade before one of us dies.

- Coming back on 88 in the sunny afternoon through a construction zone where we were single file, I was struck by another sense - semis and cars, all in close file were snaking across the prairie like some modern herd of wierd metal animals...

In my next life I'll be a cat
Posted by: Anne-Marie Hislop at 6:32PM CST on September 16, 2008

With the stock market making me sea-sick, in the throws of a job search, with my budget stretching to cover less and less, my elderly dad becoming more forgetful, (and more), I am feeling jealous of my cat (who is presently out cold on the back of the sofa).

Her work is to play peek-a-boo with some young squirrels, who frequent the balcony, run off assorted birds who dare to land on the railing or gutter (I use 'run off' loosely because it means staring at them and occasionally jumping against the screen - in short, nothing too strenuous).

Otherwise ZZZZZzzzzz here and ZZZZZzzzz there, food on demand, lots of petting and brushing - oh, and someone else to clean up after her. When she goes to the vet, she feels free to hiss when something displeases her (no need to be polite or mature or stoic) - and the same fool who cleans up pays the bill :-)
