Oscars - who will win?
Posted by: Linda Cook at 11:30PM CST on February 2, 2010
So who's going to win the Oscars?

It's anybody's guess. I certainly didn't think "Avatar" would win Best Picture at the Golden Globes!

Who/What are you rooting for?

New Year's Eve memory
Posted by: Linda Cook at 2:33PM CST on December 31, 2009
Today is my birthday.

My birthday song always has been, and always will be, "Auld Lang Syne." It's an introspective day for me because I always look back at the entire year.

Every New Year's Eve is memorable for me. i've enjoyed some quiet times with my husband and some great evenings out -- after all, everyone is celebrating when it's my birthday! : )

Every year, I think back on a time many, many years ago when I decided to leave a damaging relationship. That New Year's Eve I knew that, within the next year, I would no longer be involved in that toxic situation. I remember looking back and thinking "From now on, my birthdays will be much better." And they have been.

Do you remember a New Year's Eve, or a birthday, for that matter, when you made a decision that changed your life? Please share your stories.

And have a wonderful New Year's Eve, whether you stay in or go out!

Most heart-warming Christmas gift you've ever received
Posted by: Linda Cook at 11:43PM CST on December 14, 2009
What was it? A handmade snowflake from a 6-year-old? A husband's gift of a diamond ring 35 years after a wedding you could barely afford?

What gifts have touched your soul over the years?

I wear mine every day. It's a white gold cross pendant from my husband, who never has surprised me so much as the day he gave it to me that December when I completion of my master's degree. I won't go into the specifics. Let's just say I earned my master's when I was having major life issues, and many times I thought I was not strong enough to continue classes.

With the help of wonderful family, friends, faculty and staff at St. Ambrose, I proudly did earn my degree, and received my diploma in a beautiful December ceremony. My husband was the one who encouraged me every day, holding my hand through the struggles and helping me maintain my faith.

Every day, that gift is with me.

It's that kind of gift I'm talking about. Please share your stories.
