My name is Chris Meyer, and I run a blog about Davenport and the Quad Cities. I also comment on QCTimes.com from time to time, especially defending the QC from undue criticism and constant negativity.

let him tear it down and end this circus."[/quote]
So then whenever anyone gets a decision they don't like from the zoning board, preservation folks, or city council, all they have to do is act like a baby and bend the laws past breaking to get their way? Sounds like a terrible idea to me. It will just ensure this circus repeats itself whenever anyone doesn't get their way.

July 24, 2010 Not to diminish Ryan's accomplishment, but I sure hope that the Bix goes back to having the best runners in the world next year. I really get a sour feeling from this Americans-only stuff. I consider it to be, ironically, an un-American thing to do.

July 19, 2010 The solution is simple. A parking garage. Students would probably pay extra for a parking permit that gives them shade/protection from rain and snow, and the neighborhood would be saved from the constant expansion of surface parking.

July 16, 2010 In addition to the $6,000 per house that can potentially be saved, the original article mentions being able to accept AmeriCorps volunteers if they had more office space. That's worth some real money. Then there's the fact that they should get some money for their old headquarters location, which will further offset the $750k. All in all, it seems like this project will have paid for itself within the decade.

July 16, 2010 Rejuvenate Davenport went right on past removing the warts and removed most of the face of downtown as well. Its amazing we have a Blackhawk Hotel or Forrest Block left to renovate after some of what went on in the 1980's and 90's.

I'm pretty sure that the Celebration Belle is taller than the Mississippi is deep here. So... no need for lifeboats.

July 07, 2010 I have mixed feelings. St. Ambrose is ripping up the existing neighborhood left and right, from tearing down houses and businesses for parking lots, to now tearing up fields and forests for sporting facilities and even more parking lots. I just don't know where, within reasonable distance of the campus, is a better location. If they kept using Brady Street stadium for big events, they could tone down the 1000 car parking lot and maybe pacify some of the neighbors...

July 02, 2010 Its sad to see this happen, considering all the history of the school in Vinton. This is where Mary Ingalls of the Little House books went away to in order to learn Braille. That said, remaining open for 7 students doesn't seem like the best use of state funds.
Braille school closing would free up funds

June 29, 2010 Downtown is far from dead. In fact, I would suggest that its the hottest residential area in the QC. Apartments can rent for over $1000 a month, and the luxury apartments being built in the Blackhawk are already being reserved at even higher price points. There are waiting lists to get into some of the residential buildings.
Also, Barb, I'm in my 20's and I am pretty sure I talked restaurants on the roof of the Crescent Lofts when I lived there.
