Easter Bonnet Parade at the Freight house Farmers Market
Posted by: Mr Ed at 9:36AM CST on April 7, 2009

Join us for our First Annual Easter Bonnet/Hat Parades at 9:00 AM, 10:00 AM, and 11:00 AM.  Help your little one create and decorate their own special Easter Bonnet or Hat at home and bring them along to market to participate in our three parades through the market. Prizes will be awarded to the best three of each parade and all children participating will receive bags of goodies supplied by our generous Freight House Farmers Market Indoor Vendors.  After each Parade all children will be encouraged to search for Easter Eggs hidden through out the grounds at market.  The eggs can then in turn be turned in for prizes. Coloring book pages and crayons will also be available for all of the kids to color away and help turn our now famous wall of art into the masterpiece that we all envision!  Farmer Ed will have many of his newly born critters on-site for educational purposes. Meet and help name "No-Name" our little market mascot of a lamb, see baby chicks, and a few adorable baby bunnies too. Balloon Goddess, Karen Habenicht, will be producing balloon animals and other specialty balloon creations from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM on the Freight House Deck!  All of our talented and creative vendors have been given a challenge to create the most spectacular Easter Bonnet and you, our valued consumers, will be asked to vote for your favorite in the Vendor Easter Bonnet Throw Down!  This is sure to be a great way to kick off Easter weekend. We look forward to you joining us for a little spring fun at market.

Remember to vote for me,  because I am cute.

Still standing
Posted by: Mr Ed at 9:01AM CST on April 2, 2009

Well even thought the wind tried as hard as it could to blow us down yesterday I and the green houses are still standing.  Now we may are may not get rain today.  I wish they could make up their minds.   Well I will start picking spinach today, and with the wind not blowing maybe the bees will start flying to pollenate our blooming strawberries.  Of course to finish my day yesterday, dad and I had a run in with a skunk in the chicken barn.  Unfortunately for both of us we lost, the skunk will not eat any more chickens or eggs and we have to deal with the smell.  Yuk!!!!    Well off to feed the lamb again then out to the farm.

Gloom is not always doom
Posted by: Mr Ed at 8:45AM CST on March 25, 2009

Even though it may be another gloomy day in the Quad Cities, I can still see the sunshine.  I will be working in the greenhouse today at the farm and that is always exciting.  At this time the strawberries in the big house are starting to bloom and the bees are flying from the hive and pollenating like crazy.  Might even start harvesting for the weekend due to so much to harvest.

Happy to say that several turkeys have hatched this week and chicken eggs will be hatching in time for Easter.  Also all of the bunnies are open their eyes.  So we will have Chicks, Bunnies and even our lamb that we are bottle raising will be at our Special Easter Event to be held at the Freight House Farmers Market the day befor Easter.  Remember to make your Easter Hat for boys and girls so that you can be part of our Easter Parade and we will be giving out PRIZES.

Well, hi ho, hi ho, it's off to work I go.
