Weekend Poll: In which Irish festivities will you participate this weekend?

This is my favorite weekend of the year. My Irish heritage is quite obvious, given my pale, freckled visage and the green-eyed, red-headed fairy child I spawned. We march with the Tim Finnegan's Wake crew every year in the Grand Parade, and even though the weather may be iffy this Saturday, nothing will keep these Irish eyes from smiling.

Even if you're not Irish, nothing says you can't have a rollickin' good time this weekend. So tune up the fiddle, lace up your ghillie brogues, and watch out for those leprechauns falling from the skies.

Question of the Day: Should the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission grant more casino licenses?

Iowa Gov. Chet Culver has come out in support of gaming license applications for four communities that want to build casinos. That has some in this three-casino town worried about increased competition in what some would call an already saturated market. The Quad-City Times editorial board disagrees with the governor's position that it's only fair to let Lyon, Tama, Wapello and Webster have their own slot machines and poker tables.

Yesterday, you got a chance to tell Davenport what to do about the Menards "dark store" agreement.

Today, you get a chance to tell Moline what you think.

The topic of debate: Brick streets. The city wants residents on its few remaining brick streets to pay to have them repaired with brick when necessary. Otherwise, the city would just as soon pave over all the brick with concrete. Naturally, the historic preservationists are appalled. What do you think Moline should do with its brick streets?

Question of the Day: Should the City of Davenport rescind its 'dark store' agreement with Menards?

Doing so would allow the home improvement company to build a larger store on Brady and 65th streets, near Interstate 80, without having to first find a buyer or tenant for its current location on 53rd Street.

Alderman Gene Meeker is leading the charge to reverse the agreement. Do you think the city should scrap the "dark store" provision?

Weekend Poll: What are your Mississippi River flood predictions for spring?

So much depends on the next two months and how quickly temperatures rise. Flood forecasts issued a few weeks ago put the chance of minor flooding at 90% and the likelihood of a major flood at 40%. But the weather lately has been encouraging. Temps just above freezing during the day are allowing snow to melt slowly, then nighttime temps below 32 degrees stop the flow, allowing water to run off a little at a time.

If we can keep this up and avoid last spring's heavy rains, we might dodge the bullet. What do you think? Are we going to flood? Is it going to be another big one?

Iowa casino employees are the latest unfortunate souls to be at high risk for identity theft after the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission suffered a computer security breach. The 80,000 affected employees can have fraud alerts placed on their credit reports for up to seven years.

So far, the commission says they know of no instances of identity theft stemming from the January incident. But smart crooks might wait. The standard fraud alert expires in six months. You have to fill out extra forms if you want longer protection.

I know this, because a college through which I took a correspondence course in high school (and had completely forgotten about) recently sent me a letter advising me of a computer security breach involving my records. Fun. I also received a new debit card last year after a security breach involving my bank's check card provider.

It seems this is becoming a more and more common occurrence. Have you had your data compromised, or worse, your identity stolen?
