Henry Rollins to play the Capitol

Now here's something different.

Punk poet/singer/songwriter/spoken-word artist Henry Rollins will perform at the Capitol Theatre in Davenport on Saturday, May 15, as part of his "Frequent Flyer Tour." Judging from the first part of the tour, it's an all-spoken word show.

I haven't had enough exposure to Rollins' work yet to gauge my opinion on him, but I do enjoy his work as one of the commentators on the VH1 "I Love the (insert decade here)" specials.

Tickets for the show are $25, and go on sale at noon Friday.

Three and a half months, $700 million-plus and three Oscars after it first appeared in theaters, "Avatar" will debut at the Putnam Museum IMAX Theatre in Davenport.

The James Cameron movie will open March 26 and will be in 3D.

Putnam officials had originally planned its first day-and-date release, "How to Train You Dragon" that day, but once again have faced a conflict with the owners of the Showcase Cinemas in Davenport. Like previous owners National Amusements, the new owners -- Rave Motion Pictures -- is apparently putting a window between the dates they open a movie and when the Putnam can play it in IMAX.

Country news: No Alan Jackson

An Alan Jackson concert at Moline's i wireless Center in April announced on the singer's Web site last week isn't going to happen. iwC executive director Scott Mullen said yesterday he was surprised to see Moline's name on the list, since talks for the show have fallen through.

In other country news, Luke Bryan ("All My Friends Say," "Do I," "Country Man") has been announced as the opening act for Miranda Lambert's May 6 concert at the Adler Theatre in Davenport. Tickets are $39.75, $34.75 and $29.75, and go on sale March 19.

Lambert has a new single called "The House That Built Me" that concert promoter Brad Garrett predicts as the "career song" for the performer. I talked to Mullen and Garrett recently for a story about the popularity of country in the Q-C that will appear in print soon.

Tickets for Cassidy are $35 for general admission and $30 for IsleOne members through April 15; $45 and $40 after tax day.

The good news continues to roll in for country music fans in the Quad-Cities.

After listing Davenport among tour stops on Miranda Lambert's tour, the Adler confirmed today the singer will perform there on Thursday, May 6.

Jackson's 'Freight Train" rolls into iwC

The i wireless Center continues to have good news for country music fans.

Moline is a stop on Alan Jackson's "Freight Train" tour on April 30, a month after the release of his new album of the same name. The opening acts are Josh Turner and Chris Young.

Jackson hasn't played at the i wireless since 2004, but did set a record of 31,200 fans in the grandstand at the Mississippi Valley Fair in 2008.

No word yet on on-sale date or prices -- The i-wi, in what as far as I know is a first, sent out a survey asking if fans would pay $35 for a Jackson/Turner/Young show.

The announcement on Jackson's Web site comes days after Rascal Flatts' concert at the arena, and before Taylor Swift (May 8) and Toby Keith/Trace Adkins (Aug. 25).
